Audrey is helping the executive committee establish the club for Not For Profit status, should cost the club about $500. The executive committee is also working on a plan to incorporate the club.

Thanks to Catherine and Joanna of Lollipop Farm. They came to the last meeting and gave a very interesting talk on what the plan is for the near future of improving their barn for the event of taking in more rescue horses.

Discussion continues about developing a policy for making donations. The executive committee would like members to contact them regarding any opinion or idea for this policy. You should have received a questionnaire from Laurie. Please fill it out and return it – even if you do not have a strong opinion on the matter.

Buying a Synthetic Harness – Jane
The cheapest harness is made of polypropylene. This will appear shiny while nylon will have a duller appearance. The weave should feel soft. If it feels coarse to you it will feel coarse to your horse.A better quality harness will have extra plies added where necessary to add thickness and durability. All hardware should be stainless, brass or chromed brass. Rust can eat into webbing and weaken it. Holes for buckles should be lined with metal eyelets or heat sealed. The ends of all straps should be heat sealed also. No rough ends should be in a spot to chafe the horse. The saddle should be of appropriate width for your vehicle and has an adequate tree. The breeching, breast collar, and girth should be lined to prevent chafing the skin. The blinkers and crupper should be of suitable material and the bridle should have plenty of adjustments on both sides. The reins can be of different materials such as webbing, webbing with leathers hand parts, coated webbing or even all leather, depending on your preference. If you are not sure if you have vinyl or poly, put a part in your freezer for half an hour. Vinyl will come out stiff and frozen; poly will be cold but supple.

Don't forget - NO meeting April 9. Wheel greasing and harness fitting April 12.
